Gnomes

The gnomes are an ancient species on the verge of extinction, with only three gnomes remaining. They live in a network of tunnels beneath the monster town, with entrances in various places inside and outside the Doubt-o-Dome.

Magic

Gnomes have a tradition of using magic, however only the Gnome Chief is allowed to practice it.

The current Gnome Chief’s grasp of the magical arts is limited, not being able to benefit from the wisdom of elders after the event which wiped out most of their race. The Gnome Chief has only been able to master size-altering spells, although he has been known to enchant animals and objects to do his will, with varied success.

Theft

While they claim they only steal what others don’t need, gnomes have a reputation above ground as thieves. Every year, dozens of items go missing around town without explanation.

The Human Gnome Project

In an attempt to restore their race, the remaining Gnomes began experimenting with sizing spells, hoping to ultimately kidnap and shrink a portion of the world’s human population to Gnome size. They captured Skunk-Ape as the first candidate after an enchanted mirror incorrectly identified him as human.

The Gnomes’ plan was thwarted by Howie and Vampire, but the Gnomes were allowed to continue their restoration project as long as they had written consent from all human candidates.

Colonel Von Krieger later signed up for this program as a way to gain access to the town.

Gnomes of Old

Gnomes were once a thriving race with a strong command of magic, creating, among other things, the Doubt-o-Dome. Modern day gnomes refer to their ancestors with reverence as the Gnomes of Old. Very little else is known about them
